Prabhu Solomon (Director) and Madhan (Producer) feature the following cast in Kayal – an emotional romantic tale full of drama and soulful music: Aananthi, Chandran, Vincent and Krishnamurthy. Kayal is a two hour, nineteen minutes running movie which hit the theatres on December 25, 2014.
The story line is built around the dreaded Tsunami of 2004, making it an essential prop in the movie. The movie is essentially about the love experiences of a young couple. Though simple, the story line is made unique by director and script writer Solomon through the use of interesting anecdotes. By means of this, significant value is added to Kayal’s main theme.
In the movie, we meet Aaron and Socrates on a journey to Kanyakumari for Christmas. This was supposed to be the last trip in their nationwide tour. Unfortunately, they get caught as they approached the town because they had helped a couple to abscond from the town. As events unfold, Aaron experiences “love at first sight” when he meets Kayal. Events that unfold around the new love birds are simple and predictable.
The movie is such that the viewer is likely to be caught in an unconscious echoing of the feelings of the characters. Before you realize, you are already sharing in their joy and sorrow. This is a big credit to Solomon and his cast. Kayal also features startling visuals, cinematography and music. Solomon could have, however, done away with a few of the songs to take care of the few lag moments suffered by the movie.
